Dear TMSA and QCSS Families,

The images of the unrest in our nation’s capital are unsettling and upsetting, no matter where we are on the political spectrum. They may be especially traumatizing for our students.

TMSA Public Charter Schools do not tolerate any behavior that incites violence, elicits bullying, or violates our student code of conduct. It is essential to remind your children that our schools are a safe space and a place for support. They should feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their thoughts, concerns, or fears.

I believe there are many teachable moments from what took place yesterday, so that we may learn and reflect on the tenets of American Democracy and our motto “Science (Scientia), Wisdom (Sapientia) and Peace (Pax).” All of us at TMSA Public Charter Schools stand together against anyone who incites violence, hatred, and bigotry; and acts on it. We keep seeking knowledge, pursuing wisdom, and fostering peace to build a better society.

Please take a balanced approach to media consumption and turn to your children’s teachers or principals for professional guidance to explain yesterday’s events at the U.S. Capitol.

I wish us all a better tomorrow.

Ben Karaduman
